WELCOME to Behind the Lens, a feature that shines a light on the talented photographers in our Wirral Globe Camera Club group.

This week, we’re looking at Rachael Gadd’s favourite photographs and hearing when her passion for photography first started.

Rachael, who lives in Wallasey, always has a camera in her hand and loves photographing the animals at Chester Zoo.

When and why did you take up photography?

I have always had a camera in my hand, ever since I was about five years old. From family holidays to days out to simply sitting in the back garden.

What do you love about taking pictures?

I love capturing rare moments or special points in time. I find it really helps with my mental health and wellbeing as it gives me focus and allows me to relax and feel calm.

What do you enjoy about being part of our Camera Club on Facebook?

I enjoy seeing other people’s photographs and the positive comments between members. It always gives your confidence a boost and it’s a great place to get top tips and advice.

If you could photograph anyone/any place/anything, who/what would it be?

I would love to take official photos for Chester Zoo especially when they have new arrivals. Lions are my favourite animal and I’d love to photograph new lion cubs.
