WELCOME to Behind the Lens, a feature that shines a light on the talented photographers in our Wirral Globe Camera Club group.

This week, we’re looking at Claire Garroch’s favourite photographs.

Claire lives in Birkenhead and her passion for photography started when she was just a child, taking photos of friends and family.

Now she enjoys capturing super shots of nature and landscapes as well as people and buildings.

When and why did you take up photography?

I started photography from a young age, always taking photos of my friends and family while growing up. I then did a course in college when I was 16, which is when I got a real passion for taking photos of people, nature, landscapes and buildings. I got my first camera in lockdown and I then did an online diploma. I really feel like photography was my passion.

What do you love about taking pictures?

I love being outdoors and in nature as it takes me out of the craziness of life. I started to appreciate the beautiful world we live in. Taking pictures makes me feel good inside. It’s exciting and helps with creativity. I find photography also helps with my mental health and I feel proud to be able to produce a photograph and develop new skills as I go.

Where is your favourite place to take pictures and why?

My favourite place to take pictures is the outdoors - woodland, forests and around the beautiful coastline we have in Wirral. I love to take pictures anywhere I can see the beauty in the world we live in.

What is your favourite subject matter and why?

My favourite subject has to be the sunset because every sunset is different. It has so many different phrases of light, colour and perspective. The sunset reminds me of my late mother and brings me joy, peace and calm.

What do you enjoy about being part of our Camera Club on Facebook?

I enjoy seeing everyone’s photographs from around Wirral. I like to see the different perceptions and perspectives other photographers have – it’s amazing. Everyone is really friendly and full of kind words, inspiring me and others every day.

If you could photograph anyone/any place/anything, who/what would it be?

It would have to be the Northern Lights, with the stunning scenery, lighting and colours. It would be a once in a lifetime shoot for me.
