TWO people have taken on and completed the “mega” breakfast challenge at a café in Wallasey.

The challenge consists of eating four sausages, four rashers of back bacon, four black puddings, four hash browns, four slices of toast, four fried eggs, four tomatoes, 16oz of beans, 16oz of mushrooms plus tea or coffee.

Challenge takers will need to complete the task in just 20 minutes to secure a free meal for their entire table. If unsuccessful, the humungous brekkie will set you back £25.

Since The Coffee Roast at Vale House in Vale Park launched the challenge last week, two foodies decided to take on the mega breakfast.

Richie Pitt, the owner of The Coffee Roast, told the Globe: “We never thought anyone would come and complete it.

“We started the challenge as a way of telling our customers that our breakfasts were back.”

Adam Moran, known for his competitive eating YouTube channel Beard Meets Food, was the first person to take on the challenge completing it in 15 minutes and 30 seconds.

Richie said: “Adam was brilliant. He was a really nice and polite guy. Although he completed the challenge he still paid for his meal.

“He has 2.36 million subscribers on his YouTube channel and he filmed the entire process which he said will be available to watch in January.

“We had about eight people standing around watching him do the challenge because people had heard that he was in the area.”

Second to take on the challenge was Birkenhead local Richard Ollerhead, who finished his final mouthful with just seconds to spare, securing a free meal for his entire family.

Richard said: “He brought his wife and daughter in with him and completed the challenge in 19 minutes and 30 seconds so the whole table ate for free.

“He hit a wall at one point so I wasn’t sure if he was going to manage it but he did it at the last hurdle.

“I don’t know how people manage to do it. It’s been incredible.”

The café is currently working in partnership with The Positivitree, a well-being movement for parents and carers based in Vale House, to provide a warm food hub over the winter period.

Richie said: “Since posting about the challenge we have had some negative feedback.

“Some people feel that it's grotesque and insensitive, but businesses are struggling at the moment, especially independent businesses.

“I guess some people only see what's in front of them and what we are doing now.

“Last year we gave away £8,000 worth of vouchers to local schools and during COVID and we fed 3,500 people for free.

“Now we are supplying school children with meals in partnership with Positivitree so if anyone would like to donate some money towards it they can contact the café.”
