WIRRAL is being battered by strong winds and flooding after a yellow weather warning was issued for the borough.

Met Office experts warned that gusts were expected to bring “hazardous conditions” to Wirral’s coast.

The warning came into force at 1am today (Tuesday, April 9) and is in place until 3pm.

Flood alerts have also been issued by the Environment Agency across the peninsula due to high tide forecasts. 

There are warnings in place for parts of New Brighton covering Marine Point, King's Parade, and Marine Promenade areas.

There are also lower-grade alerts in place in West Kirby, Rock Park and Meols Parade.

The Wirral Coastguard Rescue Team has asked residents to exercise “extreme caution” during the weather warning due to high tides and strong winds coinciding.

Staff working at Tanskeys Bistro on the South Parade in West Kirby became stranded after the water flooded the walkway and road today. People have to be saved from the cafe by lifeboat crew.

Video filmed by staff at Tanskeys showed the parade and road completely covered in water. Pictures taken by other people also showed cars being moved by the waves.
