POLICE have sealed off an area in Birkenhead following a reported "assault" in the early hours.
Residents have reported seeing police cordons in place near to the Firemans Arms pub, and around the area of Conway Street this morning, Saturday.
When contacted by the Globe, a police spokesman said it was in relation to an "assault" in the early hours and that crime scene examinations are taking place.

A Merseyside Police spokesman said shortly before 1pm: "There is a cordon in place for some crime scene examination work going ahead.
"There was an assault in the early hours."
He added the cordon the cordon was expected to be in place for around another couple of hours.
Police have confirmed a man in his 20s suffered lacerations to his neck in a "nasty assault" at around 5.30am on Conway Street.
