WIRRAL was faced with a day of disruption as Storm Pia brought strong winds and flooding to the region yesterday (Thursday, December 21).

The borough was issued with a yellow weather warning from the Met Office which came into force at midnight and lasted until 3pm.

The peninsula faced major disruptions as flooding caused transport disruptions and road closures.

Strong gusts caused issues on Merseyrail services including a tree hitting an obstruction on the West Kirby line. Stagecoach buses were also forced to take alternative routes after a fallen tree blocked roads in Spital.

Mersey Ferries were also suspended due to the weather.

Well Lane, Tranmere, Borough Road, Birkenhead, Ellen's Lane, Bebington and Bebington Road, Bebington were all reported to be flooded.

There were also reports of motorway disruption on the M53 between junction 2 and 3 in Oxton/Moreton due to flooding and obstructions on the road.
