A MAN has died following an incident in the River Mersey near New Brighton promenade.
Coastguard, ambulance, police and the RNLI were called to Marine Promenade at around 1.55pm on Thursday to reports for the concern for the safety of a man in the water.
The man, in his 50s, was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
It is understood he had got into difficulty while helping one of two children who had got into difficulty while paddling.
No details have been released on where he was from.
His next of kin have been informed and are being supported while enquiries are carried out.
