A travelling community that had set up camp on a field in Wallasey yesterday is being served with a court order to leave the area today.

Around 20 mobile homes had parked up on Wallacre Playing Fields off Mosslands Drive in Wallasey Village after being moved on from a field backing onto Holy Spirit RC Primary School in Leasowe.

But it has emerged that, following a court hearing this morning, they are being served with a Possession Order to vacate Wallacre Playing Fields.

If the travellers do not move once served with the order, the Sheriff’s office will be instructed to enforce it.

Ward councillor Ian Lewis said: "Thanks to the swift action of the police and council, Wallacre Playing Fields will soon be vacated by the travellers, but no doubt with another clean up operation to be paid for by the taxpayer.

"These are popular and well-used fields, by football clubs and local residents.

"To see them occupied and misused in this way has been a concern for many people living nearby.

"To prevent any further illegal encampment on these fields again, we will be asking the council to consider measures to prevent unauthorised vehicle access, as we have at other locations around Wallasey".
