REGARDING the news that the council is looking to close Hoylake library, I feel compelled to point out that, without a library in each area of Wirral, the council is effectively curtailing the opportunites of future generations.

In my youth, I found both West Kirby and Hoylake libraries instrumental in expanding my literacy, knowledge and appreciation of the world beyond Wirral.

A library’s resources can unlock the potential within members of the community to better themselves.

In an age of “txting”, the recession of the written and spoken word, free public libraries are needed more than ever.
