I NOTICED in the July 27 edition of the Wirral Globe that Wirral Council is joining the list of authorities that don’t care about the environment residents live in by further reducing bin collections, by either reducing the size of the general waste bin, collecting the general bin every three weeks, or introducing a bin/bucket for the collection of kitchen slops.

Who do the ruling cabinet think they are further reducing collection of the general waste bin by yet another week?

What will be accomplished by forcing the council taxpayer to keep a slop bucket, how often is this going to be collected, where will I be expected to keep yet another bin, and where exactly is this food waste going to be turned into fuel?

According to the story, Councillor Kelly has raised the point that 12 options were presented.

Only two options are being reported. What are the other ten options?

Councillor Bernie Mooney is reported to have said that all UK local authorities are required by the EU to recycle 50% of their waste by 2020.

Brexit has been decided, so why use the EU as an excuse for undemocratic decisions?

The waste that takes up the most room in our general bin is plastic packaging that can’t be recycled, and since it is contaminated by food that rots, it starts to stink.

This proposal will lead to more inappropriate disposal of household waste, black bags left out for animals to tear open, and further degradation of the general environment.
