REGARDING Charles Barnes' letter (Disregarding public opinion, Mailbox April 13).

Magenta Living is replacing 53 poor quality bedsits and flats (many of which shared a bathroom) at Bridge Court with 48 one and two-bedroom, modern apartments.

This will provide much-needed, affordable rented housing in the area.

The site has never been a public tree preservation area, nor are there, or have there been, any tree preservation orders.

Magenta Living is actually planting many more trees than have been removed, and the building will be environmentally friendly, meeting the Code for Sustainable Homes, Lifetime Homes and police Secure by Design standards.

In addition to this, Magenta Living carried out an extensive consultation programme and while there were objections to the development, these were outweighed by those supporting the scheme to bring affordable housing to West Kirby.

While we appreciate the scheme has its objectors, it also has many who do support it and are in real need of modern, affordable accommodation.
