I WAS saddened to read about the recent environmental vandalism enacted by Network Rail close to a stretch of track between Spital and Bromborough.
However, this is not the first time that they have operated in this manner and there are also other suspects out there.
It is all of a piece with the 21st century mentality that thinks all natural vegetation somehow needs to be tidied up.
That mindset is found amongst many local authorities, various public bodies, individual householders and so called friends of parks.
In an era of increasingly severe and unpredictable weather, green spaces and trees are essential in order to soak up heavy rainfall.
Scrubland and ever-spreading concrete and terrace is not the answers.
