I WAS disappointed to read the views expressed last week by "DH by email" over the Claughton village lights.

Given the timescales from the time in October when a decision was made to have lights this year, after a two-year absence, and the considerable logistical problems involved in locating, repairing and replacing lights, to say nothing of fundraising, it is a considerable achievement that any lights have been installed.

We accept that the lights are not perfect, for the reasons indicated, but preparations are already under way for next year which will enable to us provide residents and visitors with an excellent and more extensive display, including tree lights and a Christmas tree, the location of which is yet to be determined.

"DH by email" has made his/her criticisms behind a veil of anonymity, something which, obviously, I have chosen not to do, but if "DH by email" would like to meet up with me for a chat about his/her complaints, I would be more than amenable to such a meeting.

It may be that "DH by email" might be able to divert his/her considerable emailing skills into assisting with the organisation, rather than the criticism, of next year's lights.

Sincere thanks to Chris Nolan (Fusion) and Joe Colquhoun (Heather Brow) for their invaluable hard work, and to all those marvellous people who generously donated to the lights.

Pat Landsborough, Claughton community group secretary.
