ALL hail to the people-power petitioners and the business leaders and traders whose logical case for resisting the imposition of taxes which interfere with and deter parking at New Brighton.
Let us now please turn our enthusiasm and use similar logic to the abolition of tolls on the use of the tunnels which connect one part of Merseyside to another.
These taxes deter cross-river travel and impose a cost to businesses which need to trade in the markets on both sides of the river.
They also levy a tax on family contacts, a minimum of £2.80 per visit.
The case for a significant reduction (in tolls) has often been proven, but the case for the complete removal of this tax is indeed just.
