RECENTLY you quoted Phil Davies, the leader of Wirral Council, who was talking about the review of Mersey Tunnel tolls that the Combined Regional Authority is supposed to have started.
He implied that any reduction in tolls depends on a change to "the way the tunnels are funded.
In fact what the Liverpool Mayor said at the combined authority meeting in February was "I think that all the profits that are made from the tunnels should go into driving down the tunnel tolls costs.
"So I am asking for a review of that by this combined authority."
As Merseytravel is expecting to make £16m profit this year from the tunnels, stopping that profit would mean that tolls would be substantially cut without the need for funds from councils or the Government.
Phil Davies seconded that motion to review the tolls, is he now trying to wriggle out of stopping Merseytravel’s toll profits?
