REGARDING your story of the impending sale of Hoylake Presbyterian Church: I have such fond memories of the the “Pressy” as we called it.

My grandparents were members Lawrence and Emily Laird, and my parents Victor and Audrey Crowther, were married there in 1949 as did mum’s older sister Sheila Laird who married in 1946/48.

Mum was in the choir all her life and my father helped out with youth club in the 1960s.

My sister Sue and myself went to Sunday school and became Sunday school teachers, the superintendent at that time was the most lovely lady called Joyce Lilwall and she looked after the youngsters and Harry Williams ran the juniors,.

We then joined the choir and from then on I continued my singing musical life, the organist at that time Mr Warburton and his wife were instrumental in pushing me forward as a soloist. We made lots of friends and are still in contact with many. I was married there in 1972 and both of my children were christened there.

When Nick Owen became organist the choir grew and we learnt wonderful choral works and sand an Anthem most weeks.

The church was our social life and it is sad that it can no longer function. I hope to attend the last service.
