IT really is about time something was done about the dire evening transport situation in New Brighton, which is becoming increasingly absurd.
It is no use providing a multi-million pound development of pubs, shops, cinemas and restaurants; no use a wonderfully rebuilt state of the art Floral Pavilion; no use Wirral Council spending thousands of pounds on new road layouts and paving if, by using these facilities and supporting the local economy, visitors cannot get a taxi home even at the relatively early hour of 10.30pm.
As a former Wirral Council community development officer for Wallasey, it has been my sad experience for the past three weekends - at 11.45, 11pm and 10.30pm respectively - when even some buses are still running, to be told by virtually every local taxi firm that there will be an hour's wait, or even worse, that none are available.
One is tempted to ask, where is the crisis?
For a small borough like Wallasey this is a ridiculous situation which if continued will soon see New Brighton revert to its "ghost town" image of past years.
George Skelly, Wallasey.
