I TELEPHONED the council’s Streetscene to report the pedestrian lights on Telegraph Road, opposite the Friends Meeting House, had not been working for a couple of days.

I spoke to a charming man who assured me the problem would be addressed as soon as possible.

Less than an hour later, there, to my surprise, was an engineer who had repaired them. After thanking him I went on my way.

I would like to thank and congratulate them for their prompt attention, also for the courteous manner my complaint was dealt with. As a retired teacher I always worked on a philosophy if one is prepared to rebuke or complain, one should always reward with praise when deserved.

It always worked in the classroom, well, nearly always!
