IN Esther McVey’s West Wirral Observer, she states “One of the 14 licences granted by Labour on December 17, 2009, was for the Liverpool Bay Mining Area to a company called Riverside Energy. The area extends to the waters across much of north Wirral.”

However, according to the Stock Exchange announcement (January 14, 2013) the UCG licence was awarded to Cluff Natural Resouces plc.

There is no reason to assume from Ms McVey’s voting record in the House that she will do anything other than back Government legislation - overriding the council’s wishes - should it come to that, while simultaneously blaming an entirely irrelevant licence granted to a completely different company by the previous administration.
