YOU really have to wonder what's happening with Wirral Council's Highways and Streetscene department regarding the never-ending saga of broken and faulty street lamps.

Despite promises that more than £1million has been allocated on replacing faulty lamps across the borough, it is abundantly clear that – two years on from my initial raft of emails and telephone enquiries – many of the streets and locations with broken or faulty lights that I have reported to them time and time again, have still not been replaced to this day.

One only wonders why we keep getting the same excuses?

What exactly are the priorities?

There has been zero evidence of any contractors attending to underground cable or other repair work at any of these locations – which I pass through on an almost daily basis.

This is now beyond a joke as we are already into the new financial year and with the six per cent council tax hike already in place.

There is very little to show for in terms of services actually being delivered.

Furthermore, the situation is not helped by the continuing saga of the delayed Four Bridges replacement works.

Either these people pull their fingers out and get these issues resolved as a matter of urgency, or they do the decent thing and resign from office.

Truly, they are a disgrace to local government if they can't even sort out straightforward issues with our roads and highways in this way but instead choose to waste resources on non-essential indulgences (such as the parking charges at beauty spots and the new food bins) and many other ill-conceived follies which benefit nobody.

Why more residents throughout Wirral are not taking them to task for being so ineffectual is a mystery.

It is your council tax money after all and they are supposed to be serving you – not the other way around!
