Wirral cyclist Steve Cummings was crowned Tour of Britain winner after Caleb Ewan took the final stage in London.

Cummings, 35, of Clatterbridge, defended the yellow jersey through the streets of the capital to claim victory for the Dimension Data team.

Australian Ewan (Orica-Bike Exchange) powered through the uphill finish to overtake breakaway rider Jens Debusschere (Team Omega Pharma-Lotto) 10 metres from the line and snatch the stage win.

Dutchman Dylan Groenewegen (Team Lotto NL-Jumbo) also overtook the Belgian to claim second place, with Debusschere clinging on for third.

Cummings came top of the general classification standings, 26 seconds ahead of American Rohan Dennis (BMC Racing Team) with France's Tom Dumoulin third for Team Giant-Alpecin.
