TRANMERE Rovers' National League campaign continues on home soil tonight when they face Gateshead at Prenton Park.

The match, starting at 7.45pm, comes three days after Paul Carden's squad earned a gritty point following a goalless draw with league leaders Dagenham.

Rovers are currently seventh on the table with 24 points, while Neil Aspin's Gateshead side are 13th with 18 points. They drew 0-0 with Torquay United on Saturday.

Assessing tonight's opponents in an interview on the club’s website, Carden said: "Neil is well-educated at this level.

"He's gone to Gateshead and put together a strong squad and probably feels they are underachieving, probably because of the lack of goals of late. They usually score goals.

"They know that they have got good players all over the pitch. We know that they will be strong.

"Neil doesn't like to mess about with the ball in the middle of the pitch.

"Gateshead will be further up the table at the end of the season."

Carden will be without a number of players for tonight's game.

Jeff Hughes continues his suspension while Michael Ihiekwe and Steven Jennings also picked up a ban in Saturday's 0-0 draw at Dagenham & Redbridge.

Adam Mekki and Connor Jennings will miss out again through injury but Jay Harris could be in line for a return to action since picking up an injury against Sutton United last month.

For the opposition, Danny Johnson misses out on a return to Prenton Park as he serves the first of a three-match suspension.

The former Rovers loanee was sent off in last Saturday's game against Torquay United.

Also missing for the Heed will be forward Toby Ajala through injury.
