TRANMERE Rovers' manager Gary Brabin is taking his squad 'back-to-basics' in their attempt to bounce back after a disappointing run of results.

Rovers suffered the indignity of a ruthless 4-2 reversal at the hands of rivals Wrexham in the FA Trophy first Round at Prenton Park on Saturday.

It was their eighth defeat in 12 games.

During a press conference ahead of this weekend's National League away clash with FC Halifax Town, Gary Brabin said the week will be spent tightening up elements of the performance that led to Saturday's defeat.

He added: "At the end of the day, people want three points.

"We are playing good football, but not getting the points.

"The club's had a wicked couple of years, we will bounce back.

"You've always got to tweak things and get the players on their toes.

"I do feel we are a little bit short at the moment.

"But we've not got a divine right to win games, we have to work at it. We want to play when it's right to play.

"We are good enough to go and make a real challenge.

"It's always hard for the new ex-league club in the first year of the National League."

On the mood in the changing room, Brabin said: "We have not given up; there's a lot of fight in us.

"I don't find it difficult to motivate myself.

"I knew when I came to the club that it was going to be a tough job.

"Hopefully, we will look back on this with fond memories when we are winning games."

Looking ahead to this weekend's game at Halifax Town's Shay Stadium, Brabin said: "It's always going to be a tough game.

"But it's about us, if we play as well as we can and limit our mistakes I'm confident we will get three points."
