WIRRAL and Birkenhead Park are locked together in second place in the North One West table after both won their latest matches.

Wirral, who currently have the better points differential, saw-off visiting Wigton 42-7 while Birkenhead Park accounted for Broughton Park 21-10 at the Upper Park.

Wirral gained four converted tries to lead 28-0 at the half way stage. Later they added two more touch downs but play became difficult in heavy rain.

James Annetts, Chris Burrows, Jason Green, Matt Loon, Rob Pearl and Chris Speed were the players to go in for the winners in a bonus point success.

Annetts converted the lot and Wigton had to be content with a single converted try in the last quarter.

Birkenhead built up a 21-3 interval advantage against Broughton but could not add to their tally against determined opponents after the break and missed out on a bonus point.

Greg Hughes, Dave Ibbotson and Billy Wooff touched down for Birkenhead with three conversions from Dave Hall.

Broughton managed a first-half penalty and the only score of the second period with a late try.

Caldy found Darlington Mowden Park in determined form in National Two North and went under 38-5 with only one try to show for their efforts.

Park were altogether too strong with five tries earning a bonus point to keep them well placed in the table.

All the conversions were successful and there was also a penalty for good measure. Caldy had to be content with a consolation try by Gavin Roberts.

New Brighton stay clear at the top of South Lancashire/Cheshire One after an 18-6 success at home to close rivals Douglas.

The Blues had to show all their strength and character against solid opponents who were losing for the first time.

Joe Silcock crossed in the opening half for the home side with Anthony Birley converting and also kicking a penalty.

The Islanders kept in touch with a penalty and the two sides exchanged penalties after the break before Silcock sealed the home win with an interception try.

Anselmians edged a tight affair against Northwich 20-19 but Hoylake went down 14-52 against in form Glossop.

In Division Two, Port Sunlight just made it 22-20 against Orrell but Wallasey were on the wrong side of a 30-0 score at Southport.

Prenton easily took the Division Three derby against Oxton Parkonians 38-3 and keep top place in the table with six wins from six outings..

Oldershaw lost 19-24 at Linley but Ellesmere Port came away 22-3 to the good from Knutsford and sit third in the division.

Caldy have Hull as visitors this Saturday and it presents a big chance of a second win.

There are away fixtures for Birkenhead Park at leaders Widnes and Wirral at Wilmslow.

There is another full league programme. New Brighton face a tasty derby at Hoylake.

The Melrose Avenue side won the corresponding fixture last season and the Blues have revenge in their sights.
