ALTHOUGH the scoreline appears one sided, Kendal in fact held the lead 14-15 after 35 minutes as their forwards took control of the game in the second quarter and fought back from a 14-0 deficit, writes Richard McNeil.

The home team started well and led 14-0 after 12minutes, tries by Ali Baker and Rob Pearl both converted by Dan Harvey.

The Kendal forwards dominated possession in the second quarter, assisted by a number of penalties against Wirral.

A crosskick allowed James Postlethwaite to outpace the home defence and score; Kendal’s second try came from a rolling maul.

One conversion and a penalty by Chris Park took Kendal to a one point lead, 14-15.

The game was decided just before half-time when the Wirral regained the initiative and ran in two tries through James Annetts and Dan Harvey with the latter converting one to give Wirral a 26-15 half-time lead.

Playing against the wind in the second-half, Wirral immediately took control with a try in the first minute of the half through Matt Loon.

Then six further tries were scored through Matt Loon, Keith Mahon, Ali Baker, 2, Rob Pearl and James Annetts, with Dan and Craig Harvey each converting three.

Overall an excellent display by Wirral, who were warmly applauded by a large crowd as they left the field.
