A TEAM of ex-Tranmere Rovers and Liverpool players face a squad from Wirral Radio FC in a charity match next month.

Proceeds from the event at Cammell Laird FC on Saturday, May 9, will be split between Wirral Hospice and Wirral Media Centre, which is based at the club. A fundraising event will be held at the club that night.

Former Tranmere men, Gareth Roberts, Andy Robinson, Alan Mahon, Simon Haworth, Kenny Irons, Jason Price, Gary Jones Alex Hay and Chris Malkin will appear with former Liverpool favourite Dave Thompson, Leicester City’s Ade Akinbiyi and Swansea’s Lee Trundle.

Rovers' legendary player and manager, Ray Matthias, will take charge of one of the sides against Wirral Radio’s own Adam Siddorn’s All Star XI.

The match kicks-off at 5.30pm. Admission is £5 for adults and £2 for children with all proceeds going to the charities.

After the match, the Cammell Laird Social Club will host live band The Felony, comedian Tony James and disco hosted by Wirral Radio's Mike Shepherd.

To raise further funds there will be raffle prizes and a charity auction with Liverpool, Everton and Tranmere Rovers having donated signed balls and shirts – one with outgoing Liverpool Captain’s Steven Gerrard’s prized signature.
