Wirral Sunday League: Langhorn stars as Kent knock Premier rivals out of cup

IN the local derby at Jericho Lane, it was Kent FC who took the honours, after they won 3-0 against Premier Division rivals, Riverside, and progressed to the second round of the Sunday League's Challenge Cup.

Although Steve English's boys were clearly up for the task and sealed the result with goals from Jonathan Parkinson (2) and Danny Morley, it was masterful all round performance from man of the match, Craig Langhorn, which caught the eye.

Sunday's Pyke Cup first round action saw Lever Bushell Athletic Put paid to rival Division One outfit Wallasey Athletic Town, courtesy of a late winner from Kyle Wright and in the Wirral & District FA's Sunday Premier Cup fourth round, despite goals from Dean Jones and Lee Cairns, Neston Nomads' hopes for a place in the semi-finals were scuppered after they suffered a 4-2 defeat at Liscard Bronze.

On the Division One scene, leaders, Higher Bebington Ath. made it maximum spoils from seven outings to date, and opened up a four point lead at the top, after goals from Victor Thurgill (2) and Chris Clarke won the day in a 3-1 triumph at Primrose Liscard.

Gary Cornah was on target for second placed Bromborough Social but relegation threatened Forum Athletic rallied to salvage a point thanks to an equaliser from Mikey Dunn.

With second placed Gladstone Athletic disengaged for the day, Division Two leaders Champions Bar seized the opportunity to race four points clear and duly obliged after posting a 3-1 win at battling Greave.

Jamie Rainford, Jamie Payne and Ben Percival scored for the leaders. Robbie Wilde netted the hosts' consolation.
