IT was a Saturday of mixed fortunes for the local cricketers on a day when the weather had a major say.

There were no Wirral winners in the Liverpool and District Competition but Parkfield Liscard and Birkenhead St Mary’s were amongst the losers.

Neston and Oxton figured in stalemates in the Cheshire County League Premier Division but Upton won in Cheshire League Division One and there were also sound successes for Port Sunlight and Tranmere Vics in Division One of the Cheshire Alliance.

New Brighton made a bold victory bid at home to Fleetwood Hesketh in the LDC Premier Division before they closed on 134-9 in just 20 overs chasing 162-9 in 47 overs. David While top scored with 32 and Adnan Ghaus claimed 3-44.

Wallasey reached 85-4 at Ormkirk before the elements took over. Graham Reid posted 32.

Division One leaders Birkenhead Park were left frustrated at home to Ainsdale who were on 111-7 when play ended.

Parkfield Liscard fell by 109 runs at Colwyn Bay. Mohammed Zulfiqar did his best with 3-33 and 26.

Birkenhead St Mary's crashed by nine wickets at Skelmersdale who asked them to bat first and dismissed them for a meagre 51. Skem passed the total off 27 balls.

Haroon Khan 88 and Chris Edwards 57 batted well for Caldy in a rain ruined match at Old Xaverians.

Wallasey and New Brighton are seventh and eighth respectively in their Division. Park head Division One with Parkfield Liscard bottom. Birkenhead St Mary's and Caldy are ninth and tenth in Division Two.

Neston clung on for a draw at home to Didsbury in the Premier Division of the Cheshire County which they head by two points.

Andrew Clarke took 4-66 and Paul Stimson 4-68 as Didsbury after being put in declared on 259-9. Jack Smith top scored with 36 for Neston who were on 147-9 at stumps.

Martyn Evans 71, Alex money 66 and Gayan Fernando 5-33 figured prominently for Oxton who looked to be on course for a win at the expense of Marple when the players were forced off.

Irby had to be content with a home draw against Stockport who finished 58 runs behind with two wickets remaining at Mill Hill Road.

Danny Gulliver top scored with 55 for Irby. Andrew Williams hit an unbeaten half century and took 4-21 whilst Dave Newman scored 40.

Upton are third in Division One of the Cheshire League after a six wickets success at Oakmere.

Wirral are tenth in Division Three after falling by seven wickets away to Cheadle Hulme Ladybridge.

Old Parkonians lost by five runs in a very low scoring Alliance affair at Wilmslow.

They must have believed victory was secure after Rob Marnick 6-23 and Will Walker 4-15 restricted the home side to just 40.

But then the Birkenhead side capitulated to 35 all out.

The Glazebury v Ellesmere Port match was abandoned without a ball bowled.

Port Sunlight are clear at the top of Division Two with Tranmere Vics second.

The Soapmen eased home by seven wickets at Knutsford. Brendan Woods was unbeaten on 56 and David Scott Nielson and Gregory Moore each claimed 3-18.

Vics won by six wickets after visiting Styal were restricted to 145-8.

Fixtures for this Saturday include Wallasey v Hightown and New Brighton at Highfield in the Premier Division of the Liverpool Competition.

In Division One Birkenhead Park entertain Rainhill and Parkfield Liscard have Formby as visitors.

Division Two games include Caldy v Wavertree and Birkenhead St Mary’s at Burscough.

Neston and Oxton both take to the road in the Premier Division of the Cheshire County League, the former to Nantwich and Oxton to Toft.

Irby in Division Two are due at Tattenhall.

Upton welcome Nantwich in Division One of the Cheshire League and Wirral are at home to Alderley Edge in Division Three.

Cheshire Alliance games include in Division One Old Parkonians v Saughall and Ellesmere Port v Rylands and in Division Two Tranmere Vics at Holmes Chapel and Port Sunlight at home to Norbury.

There is also a Liverpool Competition programme on Bank Holiday Monday.

New Brighton and Wallasey face local derby and other games include Orrell Red Triangle v Birkenhead Park, Rainhill v Parkfield Liscard, Birkenhead St Mary's v Sefton Park and Prestbury v Caldy.
