IT was a good day for Neston and Oxton on Saturday as both won their latest Cheshire County League Premier Division matches.

Oxton had 60 runs to spare against visiting Alderley Edge.

Gayan Fernando unbeaten on 47 and Andrew Birley 5-33 were the main contributors.

Neston made it by six wickets at home to Toft.

The visitors reached 235-8 after being put in, but Neston cruised home with overs to spare.

Luke Camden made an undefeated 71 for the winners and Andrew Clarke enjoyed a 5-55 return.

Wallasey won but New Brighton lost in the Premier Division of the Liverpool and District Competition.

Wallasey had 34 runs to spare against Highfield. Matthew Wilcox 41, Alex Eagles 40 and Neil Cross 5- 33 were well to the fore.

Cornelius de Villers 62 and John While 56 helped New Brighton to a respectable 224 at Maghull but the home side marched home by eight wickets.

The Division One derby between Birkenhead Park and Parkfield Liscard was drawn. Birkenhead posted 244-8 declared and the Wallasey side closed 12 runs adrift with their last pair together.

Mike Barnes 77 and Chris Bellis 64 put on 120 for the first Birkenhead wicket.

Adrian Kinsey 47 and Rob Houghton 4-69 were others to do well. Kamran Hussein was best for the combined side with 69 and 4-69.

Caldy saw off Sutton by 54 runs in Division Two. Best on the day were Chris Edwards 64, Jeremy Groot 55 not out and Dave Kay 5-83.

Birkenhead St Mary’s were crushed at Old Xaverians. They won the toss and batted first but were dismissed for a meagre 89 of which Muhammad Ghafoor contributed a half century.

Upton edged home by one wicket at Ashton on Mersey in Division One of the Cheshire League. Gary Dixon claimed 5-36 and at the death scored an invaluable 19 not out.

Wirral (Danny Develing 65, Dave Fletcher 4-54) went under by 25 runs at Disley in Division Three.

There was no joy for the local Division One sides in the Cheshire Alliance. Old Parkonians were dismissed for just 81 at Stretton and lost by nine wickets.

Ellesmere Port (G Boyd 72, H.Khan 4-16) fell by 13 runs at Stalybridge St Pauls.

Port Sunlight took the Division Two derby at Tranmere Vics by four wickets. Rich Baker made 42 for Vics and best for Sunlight was Wayne Grieve with 44 not out and 3-22.
