FOR the second year running, a bowler playing in the Birkenhead and Wirral League has won the Champion of Champions Tournament at the Waterloo Hotel in Blackpool.

Last year it was Gladstone's John Finch - this year it was New Brighton Quarry Vikings Terry Glover who beat Noel Burrows 21-12 in the final. A magnificent achievement by the player from Liverpool.

The final stages of the Hewall RBL pairs tournament were played on Sunday. The winners were the pairing of Danny Barwise and Mike Tunstall over from Liverpool who beat Tixall's Liam McEgan and Andy Hayes in the final.

Results:

Semi-finals: D Barwise and M Tunstall 21, P Hammond and P Jones 20; L McEgan and A Hayes 21, M Andrews and O Doyle 08.

Final: Barwise and Tunstall 21, McEgan and Hayes 15.

The Richard Evans Memorial 31-up tournament has been taking place over the last two weeks and reached the final on Friday.

Last year's winner, Gladstone's Nick Burridge Jnr, got through the semi-finals but was just pipped in a really tight game by Tixall's Anthony Thompson, who then went on to play Dave Carter, Lloyds BC, in the final.

Carter had been too good for Adam Penlington in the quarter-final before he won through in a really high-class semi-final against Terry Glover.

The final was another tight affair but Carter came through to win what has been a great tournament by 31 points to 26.

Results:

Quarter-finals: A Thompson 31, J Finch 18; N Burridge 31, W Atkinson 10; D Carter 31, A Penlington 14; T Glover 31, M Gilmore 29.

Semi-finals: Thompson 31, Burridge 26; Carter 31, Glover 24.

Final: Carter 31, Thompson 26.

The second-round of the Flyers enjoyed yet another wonderful sunny day in Birkenhead Park and there was a good turnout with several players making their first appearance in these tournaments.

The winner was Cammell Lairds’ Jamie Smith, who beat New Brighton Quarry Vikings John Cosgrove.

Smith had beaten Colin Watterson of Wallasey RBL and and Hoylake Central's Tommy Walker fairly comfortably to reach the final, but Cosgrove only just scraped through in both the quarters and semis firstly against the Lever Club's Dougie Briscoe in the quarters and then Joe Edwards of Our Ladys in the semis.

The final was yet another very close game for Cosgrove, but this time it was Smith who prevailed and he clinched his first ever win at the Flyers.

Results:

Quarter-finals: T Walker 21, S Ward 12; J Smith 21, C Watterson 14; J Cosgrove 21, D Briscoe 20; J Edwards 21, R Marshall 15.

Semi-finals: Smith 21, Walker 16; Cosgrove 21, Edwards 19.

Final: Smith 21, Cosgrove 19.
