THE Birkenhead and District Parks team had done very well to reach the semi-final stage of the British Parks Championship, but unfortunately they could not upset the very powerful Yorkshire squad last Sunday and lost by 23 points to 8.

In the home match at the Lever Club they had five winners, with Tony Sullivan's 21-13 the best result, and in the away leg in Bradford Liam McEgan also won 21-13.

The Wallasey Association's Tom Bassnett Pairs Tournament was played at Central Park on Sunday; though the turnout was a little disappointing the conditions were ideal for bowls.

After a series of hard-fought games, the winners were the West Kirby Victoria pairing of Rob Franklin and your correspondent Bill Atkinson who beat Chris Barton of New Brighton Quarry Vikings and Josh Bunting of Sandridge in the final.

In a very busy week for the Wallasey Association, their Wallasey News Cup final was played on the Manor Road green on Saturday between the new first division champions, New Brighton Queens Royal, and Wallasey RBL.

Though Wallasey were given a 78-point start by the handicappers this wasn't enough to stop the 'Vikings' winning their second cup of the week, this time by 39 shots.

In fact, led by Anthony Thompson's 21-03, they won the first 11 games before a valiant 21-16 for Les Richards salvaged some pride for the Wallasey team. What a great season this has been for the New Brighton Queens Royal team.

The Wallasey Association's Presidents Cup final had been played the previous Wednesday, and in this match New Brighton Queens Royal took on Hoylake Central; the game being played on Liscard's green.

The 'Vikings' had to start with a deficit of 48 but they found this no problem and were the winners by 34 points.

For Quarry Vikings both Steve Nugent and Anthony Thompson had 21-06 wins while for the Hoylake team Rick Keeley and Steve Lyons both won 21-18.

On the same evening, the Wirral and District's Stott Cup final was played at Thingwall between Port Sunlight Village and Works and Sacred Heart.

The team from Moreton had to start with a 21-point deficit but after the first four blocks they had taken an 11-point lead and must have felt fairly confident of victory. However Port Sunlight fought back and won by just three points.

Sacred Heart's Steve Hollywood had a great 21-09 win but Arthur Hall's 21-8 win in the back four was a match winner for the Port Sunlight team.
