BIRKENHEAD Sixth Form College have completed a unique football double by winning both the Wirral Cup and the NDS Cup.
The college first team won the Wirral Cup for the fourth time in the last five years after a hard-fought win over a plucky Mosslands team.
The victory came just two weeks after the second team lifted the NDS Cup.
A solid defence kept the College cup dream alive as Mosslands dominated the first-half. Midfield players under the guidance of Anto Price and Matthew Carlin slowly took control, giving possession to forwards Leigh Swanick and Adam Lea, who gave the team a 2-0 half-time lead with superbly crafted goals.
Mosslands rarely looked like getting back into the game despite hard work and effort.
Goalkeeper Chris Newton and defenders James Beattie and Simon Slater coped comfortably with the long ball game employed by the opposition up until almost the last kick of the game, when Mosslands scrambled a well-deserved consolation goal.
Birkenhead Sixth Form College deserved their reward for the quality of their creative play, the constant threat posed by skilful forwards and the solid defensive wok that kept their opponents at bay for the majority of the game.
