BIRKENHEAD St Mary's and Caldy both came a cropper in the Bromborough Paints Merseyside and Southport Alliance, with Parkfield Liscard involved in a tense draw.

Birkenhead mustered just 45 at Norley Hall replying to a 168 knock. Shakeel Nawaz tried his best with 5-49, but the batsmen failed.

Caldy stayed second in the table after missing out by 115 runs at Worsley. Parkfield Liscard made 199 against Sutton, with Denzil Addicott hitting 65 and Graham Jones 64. Sutton closed on 196-8. Addicott claimed 4-85.

Birkenhead lost by 15 runs at home to Sutton in the Merseyside Competition. Barry Fairburn struck 55 and Bob Williams had 3-27.

Dave Battersby scored an unbeaten 96 for Caldy in a draw at home to MANWEB. Tranmere Vics won by 19 runs at Rainhill. Ed Briers finished with 3-48.

In Division Two of the Meller Braggins Cheshire League, Wirral figured in a losing draw at Barrow, where their last pair held out.

Port Sunlight lost by 40 runs at Castrol in Division Three, but it was much better for Parkonians - they saw off Lindow by 67 runs. Mike Beckett, 40, Greg Lindop, 33, and Chris Hitchell, 32, were the best of the Parkonians batsmen, with Dave Fletcher taking 4-20 as Lindow were dismissed for 86.

In the Competition, Birkenhead St Mary's go to MANWEB and Caldy to Moorfield, with Parkfield Liscard entertaining Sutton on Sunday.
