CAMMELL Laird 1907 FC entertained Alsager Town in their last league fixture of a turbulent season, but claimed the points in a battling performance that saw the hosts win 3-2.

A slow start saw Lairds concede after only 11 minutes as Saem Son scored when unmarked.

But the home side fought back and drew level in the 43rd minute after a goalmouth scramble which saw Jack Darlington net from inside the six yard box.

Lairds then kept up the pressure and were awarded a penalty in the 46th minute with Kieran Cartwright blasting home the spot kick with ease to put the hosts 2-1 ahead at the break.

The second period saw Lairds again being the better team especially due to the solid performances at the back by captain Ryan Smith, Matty Beaman and Jack Davies, who caused havoc for the visitors with his long throw-ins. But a poor forward pass was easily blocked and Town fired the ball forward to Niza Chilufya who placed a shot home past the advancing Ciaran O'Loughlin in the 83rd minute.

With time running out Lairds maintained their pursuit of all three points and when a good cross found player of the game Kieran Cartwright on the edge of the area he fired home a brilliant bicycle kicked goal to seal the points in excellent fashion for a 3-2 success.

Lairds' remaining fixture is in the final of the Wirral District FA Senior Cup versus Capenhurst Villa, which will be staged on Wednesday, April 24 at the KRCT Stadium with a 7.30pm kick off.

Lairds Reserves are also in cup action when they play FC Kirkby at Vauxhall's ground in the final of the Shield competition on Tuesday, April 16 with a 7.30pm kick off.
