A DIFFICULT week for Cammell Lairds 1907 FC ended with a 2-0 defeat at home to Maine Road.

Midweek saw Lairds fall to a heavy defeat against an average Droylsden team due to slack defending and missed opportunities as they fell to a 4-0 loss.

Then on Saturday, they contrived to lose three more points despite being the better team for long periods, but two goals in 20 minutes in the second half from Oliver Lomas saw Maine Road take the spoils.

After the second goal in the 76th minute, Lairds piled on the pressure and created some good openings, with the best being a penalty, but this was blasted over the crossbar by Ben Wood in the 80th minute, when a goal was desperately needed. Other efforts were fired wide or high and the visitors retained their 2-0 lead to secure the points.

This result allied to the bottom three teams all winning has increased the pressure on Lairds to take some points in their remaining seven league games.

Better news for the club was seeing the reserves beat Poulton Vics 4-2 to go five points clear at the top of the West Cheshire League Division Three with a game in hand over their closest rivals. Netting a brilliant treble and taking the man of the match award was Adam Larway, with Jayden Jones claiming the single in a great team performance to keep their promotion push steadily on course.

The reserves are already in one cup final and hope to make it two, so this could be a treble winning campaign.
