CAMMELL Laird 1907 FC continued their unbeaten run when defeating close rivals Stockport Georgians 2-1 at the KRCT Stadium in an encounter that should have seen a much larger winning margin.

From the kick off, Lairds dominated much of the first half, but could not convert their chances and were punished on 26 minutes as the visitors broke away and punished some sloppy defending to open the scoring through Harry Lymm against the run of play.

This setback did not deter Lairds and they kept up the pressure but were thwarted by the visiting keeper and some desperate defending. However, they were rewarded just before the interval as James Farr levelled matters with a good goal.

As in the first period, Lairds controlled much of the half and after some early misses finally went ahead as James Ludbrook stole in at the back post in the 65th minute to deservedly put Lairds ahead with a great finish after some fine build up play.

As in recent games, Lairds applied lots of pressure but failed to convert chances created that would have given them a better winning victory. This 2-1 success puts them in good stead for the visit of Droylsden on Tuesday evening with a 7.45pm kick off.

Elsewhere, the reserves had to battle hard in their WCFL Shield semi final away to West Kirby reserves due to having their keeper sent off and being down to nine men following a sin bin decision, but with captain Peter Charles being dominant and Ben Crossley and Henry Willett netting a goal apiece they went through to the final with a 2-1 verdict in a challenging fixture.

The unbeaten youth team continued their winning streak when taking the points at home against Mossley Hill Athletic to stay third in the division but only two points behind the leaders and with a game in hand. This thanks to Teddy Galer and Jack Jordan bagging singles in a great team performance that merited victory.
