UPTON Cricket Club have moved to bolster their 1st XI squad ahead of the forthcoming season.

The club, who play in Division Three of the Cheshire County Cricket League, have confirmed the signing of Umer Zeb, who joins from Warrington where he has spearheaded the bowling attack for the last few seasons.

Last season, Zeb took 37 wickets at an average of 18.1, also contributing nearly 200 runs lower down the order.

Also arriving at Old Greasby Road is Mike Yeates, who joins from Kingsley having been a regular in their 1st XI for the last three seasons.

Yeates has picked up 47 wickets over the last couple of seasons at a very economical average of 14.6, and also contributed with some very handy lower order runs.

1st XI captain Matt Owen said: "Zeb is a proven performer not just at this level, but higher.

"Having played against him since the age of 12, I can certainly vouch for his quality with the ball, but also his potentially destructive batting. I believe Umer offers us the all round package and we are delighted to add him to the squad. Adding a player of this calibre is testament to the attractive proposition our club still remains.

"Mike brings us another great energy and adds to our depth. Following his approach having moved into the area, it all seemed a natural fit. I’m really excited to see what he can bring to the group."
