A WIRRAL runner has “made history” with her race victory.

On February 3, running clubs from across Merseyside took part in the 2024 County Cross Country Championships.

At the same time, the County Primary Schools Cross Country Championships were being held at Arrowe Park.

The Warriors Pentathlon and Athletic Club (Warriors), now in its second year under the guidance of senior endurance coach Sarah Kearney fielded teams at both events.

Warriors runner Emily Kearney won the senior Merseyside title, becoming only the second Wirral runner to do so, and the first one for 19 years.

Her victory inspired the other Warriors women to unprecedented success as they won every race at both events, including Daisy (U11 Primary Gold), Rosanna (U11 County Gold), Eve (U13 County Gold), Isla (U15 County Gold), Storm (U17 County Gold) + U17/U20 Team Gold, and Emily Kearney Senior Gold + leading the Warriors Senior Women to their first County title.

Warrior boys also did the double at U11, with Bobby winning the Primary U11 race, and Daniel and Quinn winning Gold and Silver at the U11 County race.

Other notable performances were a bronze from Owen and team silver in the U13 County race, team silver in the U15 County race and a bronze from Oberon and team silver in the U17 County Race.
