WIRRAL RUFC are through to the final of the Papa Johns Community Cup after beating Scunthorpe 43-17.
In the first ever meeting between the two sides, Wirral got off to a good start scoring 10 points in the first 15 minutes through a Dan Harvey try and a conversion from James Annetts.
In the period up to half-time, Wirral managed three more tries through Nick Hearn, Hayden Long and a 95m dash by captain Chris Crowley, coupled with goal kicking from Annetts to build a lead a 29-12 lead at half-time for the visitors.
In the second half, Wirral gave places to all their travelling substitutes and scored two more tries through Crowley and Jacob Mitchell, both of which were converted. In the final minutes of the game, Scunthorpe scored their third try.
Wirral meet Cornish side Launceston next Saturday at Worcester’s Sixways Stadium.
The game kicks off at 3pm and the club has booked a supporters’ coach for the day.
