LEAGUE leaders Oxton Ladies 1s welcomed Macclesfield to The Den on Saturday.

The Lionesses started strongly but it was clear from the off they were not going to have it all their own way.

A fantastic attacking drive down the left from Lucy Jamieson narrowly missed the goal.

Oxton were in control for most of the half, attacking the Macclesfield D, but were unable to capitalise on the chances they had created.

Oxton Ladies in action against Macclesfield

Part way through the first half, and completely against the run of play, Macclesfield managed to break the deadlock, slipping the goal into the Oxton net.

Oxton fought back hard and before long the equaliser came from a cleanly struck hit from captain Jules Armstrong to bring the teams back on level terms.

Both teams came out after half-time in determined fashion.

Oxton were pushing hard for a winner but Macclesfield held their own in defence, neutralising the Oxton attack and soaking up the pressure.

Finally Tarryn Rostenne found the back of the net with a fantastic strike, but the goal was ruled out – the ball deemed to have been struck from outside the D.

It was not to be Oxton's day and they had to settle for a draw.
