IT was 'wash-out Saturday' for some Wirral sides on the rugby union front last weekend but, amazingly, five matches were completed in horrendous conditions.

Postponements after hours of non-stop rain included Caldy's clash with high-riding Sedgley Park in National Two North and the Birkenhead Park v Wirral derby in National Three North.

New Brighton had a non too pleasant trip to the Isle of Man to take on Douglas in South Lancashire / Cheshire One.

They played their hearts out before narrowly losing 18-21.

At least they had the satisfaction of bringing back to the mainland a losing bonus point.

Casualties in this division included Anselmians v West Park and Hoylake v Manchester.

Oldershaw and Wallasey ground out an 18-18 draw at a soggy Belvidere in Merseyside West League.

Port Sunlight edged the verdict 15-14 at home to Mossley Hill but there were defeats for Prenton 0-36 at home to Liverpool University and Ellesmere Port 10-20 away to Ruskin Park.

Local clubs play their last league matches of 2015 this coming Saturday and will hope for much more favourable going.

Caldy have an interesting home derby against Cheshire rivals Chester with a 2pm kick-off at Paton Field.

Birkenhead Park welcome Rossendale and Wirral have a Mersey derby against Waterloo at Clatterbridge.

Other matches include Hoylake at Douglas, Anselmians at LSH, New Brighton v Glossop, Ellesmere Port v St Edwards, Prenton at Newton Le Willows and local derbies Oldershaw v Port Sunlight and Oxton Parkonians v Wallasey.
