TRANMERE manager Micky Adams has said the squad must not let relegation talk hamper their battle to stay in the league.

During a press conference ahead of Saturday's home game against Dagenham & Redbridge, Adams said it was important to focus on the positives and work on the basics of the game.

Rovers are now in 22nd place on the League table, one spot above the relegation zone, after they were beaten 1-2 by promotion-chasing Wycombe Wanderers at Prenton Park on Tuesday night.

Adams said: "We’ve got to pack this talk of relegation in.

"There are too many people talking about it; what we've got to do is finish above the teams that are below us.

"We're going to abandon all talk of relegation and look at the positive things. I don’' want to see people downcast.

"It's not going so well for us at the moment, but get on with it.

"I've seen a confident group of players since I’ve been here, a confident group of individuals, but I’m also seeing the other side, where their performances are affected by results and that can happen.

"I've been there as a player myself, so I know what they’re experiencing. I try and draw on my experience as a player and there’s no easy solution to it.

"You've got to work through it.

"Small margins in a game of football can mean the difference between a confident and not-so-confident group of players.

"There are a lot of local boys here and the pressure of last season and this season can affect people in different ways.

"They're probably putting themselves under too much pressure.

"It can’t be right that you wait until you go a goal behind before you come out of your shell."

"The main focus, from my point of view, is getting them back to basics, getting them working hard as they possibly can on the training ground and working our way through it.

"I think when you join a struggling team the one thing you to try to do is get them out of losing mentalities.

"We are not enjoying what we’ve produced lately, but we've got enough games to do something about it."

Saturday's game between Tranmere and Dagenham at Prenton Park will be only the fourth time the two clubs have met. Dagenham are 18th on the table with 40 points.

Assessing this weekend's opponents, Adams continued: "If you look at their recent away record, they have been quite good away from home.

"They tend to relax a little bit and it’s as if the pressures off them.

"We've got to play at a tempo, we’ve got to approach it as if it’s a big game and understand why it’s a big game.

"They've got the old man (Jamie) Cureton upfront who scores. You’re never going to lose that knack of scoring. He’s never lost it and is a real threat for them.

"It's about us on Saturday. We can talk as much as we like about Dagenham, but we’ve go to show there is still life in us.”

Adams hopes to have injured trio Rory Donnelly, Jennison Myrie-Williams and Rob Taylor available for Saturday's game. against Dagenham & Redbridge.

The three missed the midweek game against Wycombe Wanderers but will have their fitness assessed ahead of the weekend fixture.

Adams said: "We are hopeful that Rob Taylor, Jennison Myrie-Williams and Rory Donnelly will all be fit and available to us.

"But that will be a decision that is left right to the death."
