LAIRD'S deservedly took the points in this derby match at a wet and windy Victoria Park.

The Cammells took an early lead when Joe Evans crossed for Craig Cairns to fire home at the near post on five minutes.

Laird then had several opportunities, with O'Brien, Cairns and Evans all being guilty of missing good chances.

The home team were limited to long-range efforts with Williams going closest on 39 minutes.

The home team got a break following a poor clearance from Dysart, which Lundon swooped on to, only for a free kick from just outside the box to be awarded.

From the set piece, Short's effort was fumbled by Laird's keeper Langley and rolled into the net.

Burscough started quickly after the break and on 48 minutes Williams hit a shot into the bottom left corner to put the home side ahead.

That was as good as it got as Laird bounced back and, following an O'Brien effort, Ritchie Foulkes took advantage of poor defending and a lucky deflection off Cairns to fire home the equaliser on 63 minutes.

Substitute Danny Smith went close for the home team on 80 minutes with a curling effort but, eight minutes later, a cross by Jamie Henders found Craig Cairns who found himself left with a tap-in at the far post.
