FOURTEEN-year-old Emily Ward from Neston competed in the Pony European Jumping Championships in Arezzo Italy on Friday.

Emily was alongside three other teenagers as part of the British Pony Team riding under the “Team Fairfax” banner, which went on to win silver.

Looking incredibly strong from the outset, and with all four riders having put in solid performances, Great Britain were in pole position after the first round, heading the leader board on an zero penalty score.

After a series of eliminations it came to the final round between GB and Germany.

An unfortunate foot in the water for a GB rider collected four penalties, meaning Britain took the Team Silver position, with Germany winning Gold and Ireland, Bronze.

GB chief Katrina Moore said: "It's always upsetting to be that close to a gold medal and to lose it from your grasp at the last minute, but it shouldn't detract from the tremendous achievement we’ve had here today.

"We have won a Team Silver against incredibly strong teams, and Germany were always going to be the one to beat."
