A MAJOR bank has launched an investigation after it offered an 11-year-old Wirral boy a credit card.

Brandon Thomas thought his luck was in when a letter arrived addressed to him inviting him to open up a line of credit.

His mother Lisa Price, from Eastham, told the Globe she could not have been more shocked: "This is crazy," she said.

"Where did they get my son's name and address? More checks need to be done to prevent this happening to somebody else.

"Credit cards or information like this could end up in the wrong hands. It is very worrying."

Miss Price said her inquiries with MBNA Europe Bank have hit a brick wall.

She claims she has contacted the bank, which told her it received her son's details from a marketing company.

A staff member assured her the error would be looked into, but said it would take between four to eight weeks.

"I feel like I've been passed from pillar to post. I just want it sorted out. They need to find out who they got my son's information from and stop anyone else getting it. At least they have taken Brandon's name off their records now.

"MBNA needs to urgently address this, much faster than eight weeks. They need to make some phone calls and find out which marketing company gave them my address," Lisa added.

A spokeswoman from the bank's press office said: "MBNA takes this very seriously. We are investigating as our top priority how this happened."
