Police closed roads following tunnel incident
A WIRRAL man is fighting for his life in hospital after apparently jumping 70ft from the bridge above the Wallasey Tunnel this morning.
Police were called to the tunnel at 9.50am following reports that a man had climbed over railings and was standing on the bridge in Wheatland Lane.
He jumped and landed on his feet and is now in a critical condition in Arrowe Park hospital.
A police spokesman said the man's injuries are so severe, he is unlikely to survive.
An investigation is underway. The tunnel was closed but has now reopened.
