On Sunday the 12th of November West Kirby’s remembrance parade was held and ran through the town. The parade began at 10am on Beacon Drive and marched to Grange Hill War Memorial. The parade was compiled of the West Kirby Sea Cadets, local war veterans and Calday Grange Grammar CCF unit, which included its Navy, Army and RAF sections. The marching was organised and skilful and showcased the younger generations respect and talents.

During the ceremony, which was conducted by Chaplain Mary Railton-Crowder, the spectators joined in with the hymn ‘Eternal Father, strong to save’ and multiple prayers. The ‘two minutes silence’ followed the hymn and prayers and was respectfully observed by all. The haunting bugle call was masterfully played by Trevor Banks. Once again, the Chaplain led the crowd through prayer and blessings. Throughout the service, members of the parade persevered through the freezing wind and rain at the top of the memorial hill, thus showing their commitment and respect. Penultimately, wreaths were laid by many, including His Majesty’s representative Captain H.B. Daglish LVO JP DL Royal Navy, and members of the parade were called to attentions. Finally, the parade was dismissed to then reform on Grange Road.

The parade marched down the hill towards West Kirby and once again the cadets demonstrated skilful, co-ordinated drills and discipline.  When marching through West Kirby roads were closed and traffic was held by police. Numerous onlookers gathered to watch the parade. The Mayor and Mayoress saluted the cadets, leaders and soldiers. The parade was ultimately halted and concluded outside of Morrisons. The parade was elegant, respectful and professional and a fitting tribute for a Remembrance Day.  Young students walked proudly alongside elderly veterans to remember and honour the courageous servicemen and women who sacrificed so much for freedom.
