Hunt for Birkenhead hate crime thug

A DISABLED teenager was the victim of a hate crime as he travelled on a bus in Birkenhead.

The incident happened on Monday, June 25 at around 5.10pm when the 18-year-old was verbally abused by another man who was sitting in front of him on the 401 Arriva bus.

Police say the man made “obscene remarks” about the victim’s disability, leaving him “very upset.”

The man got off the bus on Argyle Street. Now officers are appealing to anyone on the bus at the time of the incident who may have any information to come forward in case they have important information.

They are also asking to anyone who recognises the man in the CCTV images to contact them in case he has information that could help the investigation.

Detective Constable Tony Jones said: "Merseyside Police takes hate crime very seriously and we are appealing to anyone with any information in connection with the incident to contact us so we can take action against the offender.

"People who carry out hate crimes should be left in no doubt that their behaviour is totally unacceptable.

"Merseyside Police will not tolerate hate crime incidents and robust action will be taken to ensure offenders are arrested and prosecuted for their actions."

Anyone with any information should call the Wirral Sigma Hate Crime Unit on 0151 777 2268, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

At 5.10pm the bus isn't going to be empty, so the other passengers did - what exactly?

Stereotypical scum that has climbed out the gutters, with his cap on and fag hanging out of his vile mouth!

We should feel sorry for him as he is probably a lazy lowlife that scrounges from the benefits system and never amounts to anything in life. He is most likely unemployable due to him being inarticulate and dead beat due to him being dragged up.

Problem is JohnON, is that if as a bystander you get involved in something that you disagree with, it generally escalates into something extremely violent. How many times do you hear in the news about someone who intervenes and then something terrible happens to them yet all they did was try and help someone else.

Whilst not the best way to do it, lets put his face out there and see if someone can recognise him and let the authorities deal with him.

He will be another drop out from the bridge. They don't tend to stay there to long so he's probably moved on. Pity, because giving him a disability for a while might just be the answer.

I'm sure he'll be apprehended fairly soon. Unlike most CCTV pictures published in newspapers this one is pretty clear. I agree that if there were other passengers on the bus then as members of what we are told is a "community", they had a duty to say something, even if that put them in some kind of danger. Unless we take these scumbags on and challenge their behaviour, they win every time.

Many years ago an ex work colleague of mine came across just such an incident on a train: a drunken insect who was harassing a woman who was sitting on her own in front of him. He promptly escorted said pond life to the door and threw him off the train at the next stop; but my acquaintance is six feet four and twenty stone, so that's maybe not an option for all of us.

That this arrogant yob needs to be caught and severly punished goes without saying.

What puzzles me is why given that the the incident took place in late June has it taken to mid August for police to make a public appeal for help in identifying the offender?

Perhaps due to the fact that they are trained and paid to launch their own investigation first.

How ridiculous would it have been if the police had immediately stood there without even trying and said "Um...we can't do this...someone else will have to."
...
Even prioritised "Hate Crimes" are slowed down by the paperwork involved too. There's extra boxes to tick.
...
7ish weeks before *having* to ask for help isn't bad going when you think about it. Cut them some slack..

Spiffy...I can not see the logic in your argument..its not about the police conceding that they were incapable of identifying and apprehending the suspect rather its simply a case of asking the public for assistance in identifying a suspect.

I fail to see how making an early public appeal to aid the identification of a suspect of whom the police have a clear photograph would have impeded their investigations.

In fact there are many examples of the police calling upon the public's assistance to identify suspects within days or hours of a crime.

As the parent of a disabled person vulnerable to such offences I would have no problem with the police launching such an appeal at the earliest opportunity if it took such a disgusting yob off the streets sooner rather than later.
