A WIRRAL mum will be putting her own stamp on London 2012 when she performs at the Paralympic Opening Ceremony.

Karen Currums, from Bromborough, featured in the Globe earlier this year as she prepared for her final round of auditions in the capital.

The 39-year-old has now had confirmation that she will be a part of history when she performs on August 29.

And mum-of-two Karen is looking forward to making her stage debut and hopes to make her children proud.

She said: "I was beginning to think I hadn't got through the recall audition as it had been seven weeks since my last audition but strangely found out while on a trip in London and on Friday 13th!

"I was a little shaky to say the least and very, very happy that my daughter Emma was with me at that moment.

"I phoned my son Daniel and husband Alan immediately who were also in London and they visited the Olympic Park the very next day.

"The games will not come to this country again in my lifetime but if they do in my children's then they have a story that I was part of it."

Karen, who works as a civil servant, will spend the weeks leading up to the event rehearsing and perfecting her moves in London.

However, she said she has strict orders to keep the details of the performance to herself.

She added: "I have been given a dance role and although I know no more than that at the moment, I have been told to remain tight-lipped about all aspects of what I will be involved in over the coming months.

"It's going to be a very busy summer for the Currums family but I am looking forward to the challenge and I'm certainly getting flutters of excitement about the big day already."
