FOOTBALL mad youngsters are being called upon for a special tournament in memory of brave cancer victim Elliot Wild.
The Claire House Cup, which takes place on July 7 and 8 at Wirral Rugby Club, is being held as a tribute to the nine-year-old who lost his battle with leukaemia last year.
Last year’s event included 60 teams competing in memory of Liverpool FC fan Elliot who was also part of Everton’s development programme for rising stars.
And now his mum Jackie, who has raised more than £30,000 for the children’s hospice, is urging local clubs to sign up and get behind the venture.
She said: “Elliot was so passionate about football, we can’t think of any better way to honour his memory than to see kids playing football and having fun whilst helping an amazing charity, Claire House.
“Last year over 60 football teams competed over two days to create a fantastic festival of football that raised over £3500 for Claire House.”
The tournament, which is being sponsored by JM Sports and Elliot’s Everton coach Ray Redmond, is open to children aged up to 14 and costs £50 per team.
Jackie added: “With the help of the local football community we aim to continue to build on this success and hopefully create a really special on-going football event.”
Also raising vital cash as part of Elliot’s legacy are pupils at Town Lane Infant School, Bebington, who are holding a sponsored ‘Wacky Wild Walk.’
